After recently moving to a new area Ava* has been struggling with social isolation during lockdown. While her husband works from home Ava and her 2-month-old daughter have been unable to make friends and community connections in their new neighbourhood. Because of the pandemic Ava has had limited contact with her family, who live outside of the UK.

Ava’s Home-Start volunteer Meera* was able to keep in contact through weekly telephone calls and introduce Ava to the Home-Start Zoom Family Group. She also delivered an activity bag with age appropriate books and play activities for Ava and her daughter to do during lockdown.

Home-Start has provided Ava with company, reassurance and the opportunity to share the joys and challenges of bringing up her first child. She has developed confidence as a parent and has been able to connect with others through Home-Start

‘Whenever I talk to you or my volunteer you tell me I’m doing the right thing and it makes me feel so good to hear that. It really makes a difference’
