Prisha* is a single mum of 3 children and domestic abuse survivor. She struggles with depression and feels grief from the breakup of her marriage before the birth of her third child. Prisha’s family lives overseas and she has been isolated throughout lockdown with no support system. She is also struggling financially following the breakdown of her relationship.
Home-Start has been able to provide Prisha with the emotional support she needs. Her Home-Start volunteer provided weekly calls throughout lockdown where Prisha could discuss her feelings and be listened to and supported. These weekly calls also focused on helping Prisha regain the self confidence that had been eroded by her ex-husband and allowed her to talk through her circumstances with him from the perspective of her children. Home-Start was able to provide Prisha with activity bags for her children, food bank vouchers and baby essentials.
Prisha is now feeling much more confident in herself and the life she can make for her children without her husband. She now sees their past relationship in a clear light and is moving to a new house for a fresh start for her family.
