Aleah* is a single Mum to her two-year-old daughter and has struggled financially. She was referred to Home–Start from her local Children’s Centre, soon after which she received a bailiff’s letter. Aleah was left feeling significantly stressed about her finances and isolated socially.
Her Home–Start volunteer Maiko* was able to step in and support Aleah when she needed it most. She went with Aleah to the Citizens Advice Bureau several times and looked after her daughter while Aleah sought advice. She also helped with online nursery applications as Aleah doesn’t have a computer. Beyond this, Maiko was able to give emotional support to Aleah during this very challenging time.
Since working with Home–Start Aleah has managed to grow in financial confidence, reduce her debt to a minimal amount and her daughter has been able to start nursery. She feels much less isolated and has really valued the support offered by Maiko and Home–Start.
