Tom* has a physical disability that impacts his mobility. He was referred to Home–Start because he wanted to engage more directly in activities with his daughter that he had previously felt unable to do or unconfident in.
Tom’s Home–Start volunteer Rahim* was able to accompany Tom and his daughter on several outings which helped Tom develop the confidence he needed. Rahim was also able to demonstrate games and different ways to play where Tom’s disability wouldn’t cause any restrictions. As time went on Tom was able to confide in Rahim with personal concerns about parenting, Rahim listened and gave back sensitive advice and emotional support.
With the help and support from Home–Start, Tom was able to grow more confident and independent as a parent, he and his daughter were able to enjoy spending time together in ways they hadn’t been able to previously.
